46 years later, Highland Park's Becharas coffee found in basement still good to drink

"Becharas Brothers is now the last institutional coffee manufacturer in metro Detroit.

While Vernors Ginger Ale may not be good to drink decades later,Weiss threw caution into the wind when she and her husband brewed a cup of coffee with the nearly 50-year-old grounds. Their reaction?

“Wow, it is good even after all these years,” Weiss wrote.

Becharas said he wrote Weiss back, saying it was his father's pride and joy to provide coffee to the military.

"He would be tickled pink," Becharas said. "The fact that they drank it after all these years and said it tasted great would bring a smile to his face."
